Category A
- Indonesia, Myanmar, Thailand
- Epidemics have been caused by all 4 virus serotypes
in the past 20 years.
- High morbidity among children.
- Cyclic epidemics (3-5 years) in urban centers and
spreading to rural areas.
- Multiple virus serotypes circulating.
Category B
- Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Sri Lanka
- DHF is an emergent disease.
- Cyclic epidemics are becoming more frequent.
- Multiple virus serotyupes circulating.
- Expanding geographically within countries.
Category C - Bhutan, Nepal
- No reported cases.
- Endemicity uncertain.
Category D - DPR Korea
Factors responsible for resurgence of the dengue epidemic
- Human population growth.
- Uncontrolled urbanization.
- Inadequate waste management and water supply.
- Increased densities of vector and lack of effective
mosquito control.
- Increased movement and spread of dengue viruses.
DF/DHF is reportable disease in
- India (limieted areas, National Programme started
in1999)
- Indonesia
- Maldives
- Myanmar
- Sri Lanka
