Viet Nam
00000000In
Viet Nam since 1963, there has been a steady increase
in the incidence of DHF. This was a major health problem
and a leading cause of hospitalization and death for
children. In Northern Viet Nam, DHF was identified for
the first time in 1959, where a major epidemic occurred
in 1969. At present most of the cases in the North are
DF and affect adults more than children. In the South,
DHF first appeared in 1960, then an outbreak has occurred
in 1963 resulting in 331 hospitalized children with
severe hemorrhage, of whom 116 died. Since then, the
disease has been spreading with continuous increase
in the number of cases and deaths, with the critical
appearance of DEN 2 in 1987, then it was closely followed
by DEN 1, Den 3 and DEN 4. Most of the cases in the
South are DHF and affect mostly children under 15 years
of age.
